No panic for Daisy boss Mills | The Bolton News

Daisy Hill will look to bounce back from the disappointment of last week’s defeat to Pilkington when they host Euxton Villa at New Sirs in the first round of the Macron Challenge Cup tomorrow.

It is the second of four successive home games for Daisy, and sees them facing the North West Counties League new boys just a fortnight after the first ever meeting of the clubs at Euxton in a league fixture, in which Daisy fell to a 1-0 defeat.

The 3-2 reverse against Pilkington last Saturday was Daisy’s third defeat in four games, but manager Leighton Mills insists there is no cause for alarm.

“Last weekend we were definitely better than we were against Ilkley Town and Euxton Villa in the last two league games,” said Mills.

“We are conceding too many goals, but I think overall it’s just minor things we have to work on, things like not giving people so much time in and around the box, reacting to the second ball.

“For the first 40 minutes last Saturday that was something we did well, picking up the second balls. We just stopped doing what was working.”

Tomorrow’s game promises to be another close affair against an Euxton side who moved three points ahead of Daisy in the league table with their 1-0 win a fortnight ago, but Mills believes the league game two weeks ago will have little bearing on this weekend’s cup tie.

“The game at Euxton two weeks ago won’t really change the way that we will approach the game,” said the Daisy boss.

“They have quality up front and that is where they cause teams problems, they get the ball as quick as they can up to the front men.

“They also play with great heart and desire and we need to match that, but if we do I think that then our quality will come in.

“We have a game plan, we know where we can hurt them, but they will be thinking the same about us, and will think they know how to hurt us.

“It will be another tough game but looks like a good one too, and we are looking forward to it.”

Kick off at New Sirs is at 3pm and the tie will be decided on penalties if the sides are tied at the end of 90 minutes.
